"But what else is there, but words?'

Yes, and love.

You shared both with him, so celebrate such a rarity.

Thanks for the update Ken. That was clearly a hard thing to write. I’m a long time fan and remember him very fondly. I appreciate him, and I appreciate you. Feels like an important time to step out of my cave and just say that.

I, too, am a Gen-X refugee from Gone Gold and Octopus Overlords. I never made that same connection with Patrick, but had a chance to compare fierce melancholies more than once, and his respect mattered more to me than it probably should have. It's been a delight to watch the two of you go on to other things, see your talents more widely recognized. And a grief to outlive Patrick. Pouring one out for him.

Lovely. You are in danger of getting kicked out of the “grouchy old litigators” club.

Popehat entertained through the years during my long term illness. If illness can unite minds , cancer can cure division. Or something cleverly said. Sorry for your loss Ken.

Somehow I missed that he was sick. He was always supportive of my writing and would comment on my posts on twitter. I wish I'd known him better. He was someone who I engaged with online and found amusing. I tried to do the same.

Sorry for your loss. It sucks to lose friends.

Words never really convey our sorrow or our sympathies at these times. I know mine certainly won't, but my heart breaks for all of us. I cannot fathom the strength of his wife through this. I wish you as easy a time as is possible in your journey through this grief.

Oh no! I loved reading him, and he seemed so happy recently with his new relationship. I thought his health had finally stabilized. So sad.
